Protect America’s Public Lands

Did you know that America’s public lands are currently under attack? Our current U.S. federal administration is working to massively defund our public lands, but together we can take action to help protect them. Outdoor recreation is not a partisan issue. We’re asking YOU to help us take action to defend and protect America’s public lands!
What is happening to America’s Public Lands?
As of March 2025, thousands of permanent jobs have been cut from the agencies that support America’s public lands. This includes jobs in the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The jobs that were eliminated are critical to managing public lands for the health and safety of visitors, wildlife, and ecosystems. Eliminated positions include:
- Trail maintenance
- Search and rescue & emergency services
- Restroom and trash maintenance
- Natural disaster emergencies (e.g. wildfires)
- Law enforcement
- Visitor centers
- Public education
- Ranger programs
These cuts mean fewer people to maintain trails and campgrounds, protect park resources, fight fires, and provide visitor programs. This also means fewer people to protect America’s public lands, fewer rural jobs, and less access to outdoor recreation in all its forms, from hiking and camping to hunting and fishing.
We need you to take action!

A majority of Americans support public lands. Unfortunately, the actions being taken by many of our federally elected officials do not reflect these non-partisan American values. It’s time to take action to defend and protect our public lands! Whether you call your congressional representatives or send them an email, pressuring our public officials to represent the values of their constituents is paramount.
Below we’re sharing 2 ways you can speak up to fight for America’s public lands. They only take a few minutes of your time.
Call your congressional representativeS
First and foremost, call your congressional representatives. Each U.S. state has two Senators, and a handful of House Representatives. Together, these elected officials make up Congress. These are the “lawmakers” that pass the federal budget. This means that federal funding for public lands is directly tied to Congress, and the budgets they pass every year.
Our current U.S. federal administration is working to massively defund our public lands. Let your representatives in Congress know that’s not okay! Below, we walk you through how to contact your representatives, and what to say.
- STEP 1: Click on the link below find out who your congressional representatives are, and get their phone numbers. All you have to do is enter your zip code.
- STEP 2: CALL! It takes just a moment, and you can do it after hours if you’d rather leave a message. Not sure what to say? Use this script:
“Hi! My name is [name] and I live in [your county’s name] county. I am one of your constituents. I am upset about the recent firing of National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service staff. This will make outdoor recreation and public lands less accessible and less safe. I would like you to advocate for the reinstatement of those permanent positions and an increase in federal funds for outdoor recreation and public lands. This is not a partisan issue. Thank you for your time.”
Send your congressional Representatives a message
If you don’t want to directly call your congressional officials, you can send them an email. Below are two resources that you can use to send Congress messages. They include pre-made messages, so all you have to do is sign your name in support.
- National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) advocates for the protection of national parks. The link below will bring you to their current list of targeted issues, each with pre-typed messages for Congress. Sign your name in support of the causes that resonate with you!
- Outdoor Alliance is taking a stand for demanding our lawmakers to reverse the staffing cuts, and reinstate the employees that protect and manage our public lands. They have a pre-made message that you can sign on in support:
Outdoor recreation isn’t a partisan issue. Now is the time to speak up to protect America’s public lands. Together we can help protect our public lands.
