2025 Holiday Gift Guide: Our 10 top gifts for hikers

We think that giving the gift of outdoor adventure is the best way to celebrate the holidays! In this gift guide we share 10 items that make great gifts for hikers.
Hiking is one of our favorite activities, so it will probably come as no surprise that we love giving holiday gifts that help people get out on the trail! Whether your loved ones enjoy strolling through urban parks or summiting epic mountains these gifts will help they stay safe and comfortable while adventuring.
Gwyn and I have hiked over 4,000 miles together. The gifts in the list below are all items that we use regularly on the trail! We have tested them on 20+ mile day hikes, through bad weather, and through multiple seasons of use, and can attest to their quality and usability! That’s why we feel confident that these are some of the best gifts for hikers!
10 great gifts for hikers
Gregory daypacks ($100+) – We have tested over a dozen hiking packs, and have found that Gregory packs are the most comfortable! Gregory takes comfort and body frame into account with their backpack designs, meaning they have packs designed specially for women, men, and plus sized hikers! These packs are lightweight, and hold everything we need to be safe and comfortable on the trail. They’re also thoughtfully designed, with tons of spots to stash key gear items!
Hydrapak Force 3 L water bladder ($68) – These water bladders are durable and have a high flow rate, which is ideal for staying hydrated while on the trail. They’re also super lightweight!
Katadyn BeFree 1.0 L Water Filter Bottle ($50) – These BPA free water filters are incredibly quick and easy to use. Their flow rate is also excellent, they’re lightweight, and they also pack down super small.
10.2 oz. Counter Assault Bear Spray ($60) – This is the gold standard of bear spray, and it is an essential tool for staying safe on the trail! This one can spray 40 feet and has a spray duration of 8 seconds, which is twice as long as most other bear sprays on the market. Every second of defense counts during a bear attack! This hip-belt holster makes it easy to store and access while hiking and backpacking.
Ombraz Sun Glasses ($160) – These sunglasses don’t just look super cool— they’re also super comfortable! The armless design means they won’t give you a headache or fall off during a long hike. Amiana has been using these glasses for over 3 years, and love they literally never fall off her face or slide down the bridge of her nose. Use code ‘BGA20’ for $20 off your order!
Smartwool baselayers ($50 – $130) – Good base layers help regulate your temperate and keep your skin safe from the sun. Wool is one of the perfect insulators as well for keeping you warm, even if it gets damp! Smartwool’s base layers for women and for men range from $50 – $130, and are our top picks for staying cozy and safely covered up on chilly hikes!
Rab Microlight Alpine Jacket ($295) – Cozy jackets are ESSENTIAL for tackling hikes in a wide variety of cold conditions. We love that these Rab jackets are water resistant and have structured hoods that help keep us warm even on the coldest mornings. Gwyn has the Rab Microlight Alpine Jacket in Meltwater, and Amiana has the same jacket in the color ‘Deep Ink.’ The men’s version can be found here.
Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots ($245) – With all the hiking we do good boots are essential! We love that these hiking boots are relatively lightweight, are waterproof, and that they have great support and traction. Gwyn has the color Espresso/berry, and Amiana has the color Reed/Honey.
Hillsound Trail Crampon Ultra ($85) – Snowy and icy hikes require special gear to stay safe on the trail. The Trail Crampon Ultra are lightweight, versatile (they can be worn with trail running shoes, hiking shoes, and hiking boots) and durable. They’re also incredibly easy to put on and take off, and come with a nice puncture-proof storage bag. This is one of the best gifts for hikers, especially in cold environments!
Matador Camera Base Layer ($75) – We enjoy hiking even when conditions are tough. This waterproof, lightweight, and padded camera bag is our new go-to item for protecting our camera gear on wet, windy, and dusty hikes.
