How to get to gig Harbor from Seattle
Getting to Gig Harbor from Seattle is easy, and you have two main options. To get to Gig Harbor from Seattle you can either drive, or take the ferry to Bremerton. The most direct route is driving south on I-5 and crossing the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, an impressive suspension bridge that delivers you straight into Gig Harbor. If you’d prefer a more scenic journey, you can take the Seattle-Bremerton ferry. Once you reach Bremerton, it’s about a 30 minute drive down the peninsula to Gig Harbor.
How to get to gig Harbor from Portland
If you’re coming from Portland, you’ll head north on I-5 almost the entire way. Just south of Tacoma you’ll take the exit toward Gig Harbor and cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The total drive is typically around 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic.
How to get to gig Harbor by plane (SEA-TAC Airport)
Gig Harbor is a convenient destination from the SEA-TAC airport, making it an easy weekend getaway even if you’re flying in. From the airport, drive south on I-5 for a few minutes before connecting to WA-16 toward Gig Harbor. You’ll cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and from there it’s only about 10 to 15 minutes into town. The entire drive from the airport generally takes 45 minutes to an hour.

Thanks to its coastal location on the Puget Sound, Gig Harbor enjoys relatively mild weather year-round, making it a great destination in any season. Fall, winter, and spring tend to be the rainier months, while summer brings sunnier skies and warmer temperatures. If you’re wondering what to do in Gig Harbor during different times of the year, the good news is that nearly all shops, restaurants, and activities stay open through every season – so you won’t run into many (if any) seasonal closures.
Winters are the coldest time to visit Gig Harbor, with average highs in the mid 40s (Fahrenheit) and chilly, rainy weather. Summers are pleasantly warm, with July and August typically seeing highs in the upper 60s. Rain is most frequent from November through January.

Drive into Gig Harbor
Begin your weekend with one of the most iconic arrivals in the Puget Sound: crossing the iconic Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The twin suspension bridge gives sweeping views of evergreen-covered hills and the Puget Sound below. It’s a beautiful way to enter Gig Harbor.
Breakfast at Netshed No. 9
Start your morning with breakfast at Netshed No. 9, an iconic waterfront restaurant tucked inside a historic netshed. This cozy spot is famous for its cinnamon rolls. You’ll get five freshly-baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with warm icing. They’re plenty big enough to share! They don’t take reservations, but I recommend asking for a seat on their outside patio overlooking the harbor.
Kayak Adventure to Deadman’s Island
After breakfast, head to Deadman’s Kayak and SUP for a guided paddle. We went with Scott, a local expert who’s lived here his whole life. As you kayak across the calm harbor toward Deadman’s Island (also called Cutts Island State Park), you’ll pass hundreds of harbor seals swimming in the water near you. They’ll watch you curiously from a distance – remember, they’re a protected species, so keep your distance. Once you reach the island, take a short walk along its forested cliffs for stunning views of the Puget Sound.
Hike at Kopachuck State Park
In the afternoon, put on your hiking boots and explore Kopachuck State Park. This small state park is a coastal gem with forested trails, and rocky beach areas. We loved the 0.5 mile Kopachuck Nature Loop and the Upper Loop Trail. Both are short and easy, making them perfect for a relaxed afternoon hike. A day pass to visit this park is $10.

Lunch at Zog’s on Fox Island
After your hike, make your way to Zog’s Pub and Deli on Fox Island. Zog’s is a quirky restaurant that’s located in a gas station, but don’t let that fool you. Inside, you’ll find a cozy patio with fire pits and an outdoor space complete with a waterfall. The menu features hearty sandwiches, burgers, and salads. I ordered the tuna melt, and it was absolutely delicious.
Take a stroll along the Tallman Wetland Trail
The delightful 0.7 mile paved loop Tallman Wetland Trail, located near downtown Gig Harbor, is the perfect place to stretch your legs and look for migrating birds. We saw some wood ducks when we visited!
Dinner and drinks on the patio at 7 Seas Brewing
End your day with drinks and dinner on the patio at 7 Seas Brewing, where you can watch the ships sail into the harbor. We loved their IPAs and the cozy fireplaces they have out on the deck!

Breakfast at B’s Bagels & Butters
Start your morning at B’s Bagels & Butters, a local favorite serving handmade New York-style bagels and spreads. The vibe here feels like a classic East Coast bagel shop, with a wide variety of bagels and spreads to choose from. We ordered the toasted sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese, and honestly – it tasted just like the bagels you’d find in New York!
Scenic Stop at Narrows Park
After breakfast, take a short drive to Narrows Park, a quiet waterfront spot with incredible views of the Tacoma Narrows Bridges. The twin suspension bridges perfectly frame the Puget Sound below. This is a popular spot to spot marine life along the shore, like seals or seabirds. We didn’t see any, but it was still a peaceful stop. This park is free to visit.
Explore the Gig Harbor Vintage Aero Museum
Next, head to the Gig Harbor Vintage Aero Museum, a hidden gem for aviation enthusiasts. This unique museum showcases vintage aircraft and experimental planes, offering an interesting glimpse into aviation history. Hours are limited, so be sure to check their website before you go.
Historic Downtown Walking Tour
Spend your early afternoon on a guided walking tour of downtown Gig Harbor. If you’re searching for what to do in Gig Harbor that combines history and local culture, this tour is a must. This tour dives into the town’s maritime heritage, net sheds, waterfront stories, and preserved architecture. Our guide, Kurt – known locally as “Mr. Gig Harbor” – was a wealth of knowledge, sharing stories that made the history of this charming harbor come alive. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours and was a great way to connect with the roots of the community.
Lunch at Millville Pizza Co.
After the tour, grab lunch at Millville Pizza Co., a downtown waterfront pizza spot with a relaxed vibe and wood-fired pizza pies. Their menu features creative pizzas named after local fishing boats. Whether you’re craving a classic pepperoni or a veggie-packed option, everything here is handmade and full of flavor.
Sunset Harbor Cruise with On Time Tours and Charters
As the day winds down, enjoy a private sunset cruise with On Time Tours and Charters, hosted by Captain Tony. This intimate experience offers stunning shoreline views, local history, and golden hour on the water. In winter, you’ll be treated to freshly baked cookies and hot cocoa; in summer, expect sparkling cider and light appetizers (BYOB is welcome). It’s the perfect way to see Gig Harbor from a new perspective.
Dinner at Morso
End your day at Morso, a cozy wine bar and restaurant known for its curated wine list and flavorful dishes. The warm lighting and intimate atmosphere make it an ideal spot for a relaxing evening. I ordered the freshly caught king salmon – it was hands down some of the best I’ve ever had. Gwyn opted for the wild mushroom bucatini, a rich pasta dish with local mushrooms, herbs, kale, sun-dried tomatoes, and sherry cream sauce. Both dishes were phenomenal. I recommend making a reservation.
Day 3 in Gig Harbor: Free mountain biking & boutique shopping on the waterfront
Breakfast at Devoted Kiss Café
Start your morning with breakfast at Devoted Kiss Cafe, one of the most beloved cafés in Gig Harbor. Located right on the water, this cozy spot offers beautiful harbor views, bottomless coffee, and hearty breakfast dishes. On clear days, you can even spot Mount Rainier in the distance from the outdoor deck. I ordered the huevos rancheros, which were incredibly flavorful and fresh – highly recommended!
Join a free mountain biking ride
If you’re visiting on a Sunday, join a free mountain biking ride with Trek Bicycle! Every Sunday, Trek bicycle offers complimentary mountain bike rentals when you sign up for their guided group ride. The adventure takes place at Gateway 360 Park in Gig Harbor. This ride is designed for all skill levels. Rentals are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot using their weekly sign-up link. You can also bring your own bike. They ride rain or shine, all year long!
Ice Cream Lunch at the Iscreamery
Next, head to the Iscreamery, a small-batch ice cream shop in the heart of downtown. They offer incredibly unique (and delicious) flavors like Brrrbon (chocolate and vanilla bourbon with salted caramel brittle), Ghosty Ghost Pepper Ganache (chocolate ice cream that packs a punch with ghost peppers), and Miso Monster (a toasted sesame ice cream with miso caramel). They also serve burgers, but honestly, our ice cream was so rich and filling that we considered it lunch.

- Direction Apparel: a cozy shop featuring “Gig Harbor” themed sweatshirts, Pacific Northwest apparel, and local goodies.

While downtown, make sure to stop by Harbor WildWatch, a free and educational marine center where you can learn about local sea life. Inside, you’ll find touch tanks and displays featuring creatures like anemones, fish, and even an octopus. It’s a fun, informative stop that helps deepen your appreciation for the rich ecosystems of the Puget Sound.
Wine Tasting at Hidden Harbor Wine Library
While you’re downtown, enjoy a late afternoon visit to Hidden Harbor Wine Library in downtown Gig Harbor. This intimate tasting room is perched above the harbor, making it an ideal spot to watch the sunset. Their curated wine flights are excellent, and they even offer non-alcoholic options for those who prefer it.
Dinner at Greenhouse Restaurant

Seafood is a highlight here, but they also offer inventive options like a vegetarian “scallop” made from heart of palm. I ordered the freshly battered prawns with roasted veggies, and it was delicious! This place is popular, so I recommend making a reservation!
